This year’s Christmas Tree Festival was a tremendous success welcoming over 2700 visitors. There would have probably been more had the snowy weather on the Sunday not made travelling very difficult. It is thought that CTF 2017 was the best yet. The 80 trees were quickly sponsored and several people an organisations were too late and very disappointed. The trees were beautifully decorated in a variety of themes. Of course the music provided throughout the three days created a lovely festive occasion. We thank them sincerely for their music.
This year the Foundation Committee handed over the Christmas Tree Festival to the St Edburg’s Parochial Church Council which was always our intention. This gives us an opportunity to take on the Heritage initiative developed by the Major Works Committee resulting in a Heritage Exhibition in September this year.
It was most pleasing to see so many involved in the various activities necessary to organise the CTF- seeking the 80 sponsors, advertising the event, putting up the trees, organising the electrical supply to each tree, providing refreshments from Thursday to Sunday, organising the musical groups, serving refreshments and welcoming visitors. All these are valuable components which lead o a very successful Christmas Tree Festival.
I should also pass on our thanks to all who visited the CTF 2017. I am pleased to announce that the amazing sum of £3583 was raised to help the upkeep of our beautiful Church. The Syrian Refugees Collection at the “Carols-in-the- Trees” amounted to £275.
